"Making Proud Choices!" is a comprehensive sex education program that teaches abstinence and contraception. It is safer-sex approach to HIV/AIDS and teen pregnancy prevention designed for sixth through eighth grade (ages 11 to 13) African-American adolescents. It stresses abstinence as the best choice to prevent HIV/AIDS, other STIs, and pregnancy.MPC challenges teens to imagine the consequences of risky behavior, and encourages waiting to prevent from attaining their future goals.
According to researchers, this curriculum works best in schools and communities with teens who are at-risk for HIV/AIDS, other STDs, and unintended pregnancies. With some of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the country, our teens fit the bill.
This theory-based curriculum has even been proven effective for students who were sexually experienced. These students were found to decrease not only unprotected sex, but also the frequency of sex in general. Sounds like a win-win to us.
